Renae has a bachelor’s degree in music with an emphasis in voice and has several years of experience in choral conducting as well as teaching private piano and vocal lessons. Her musical pursuits were put on hold to be a full time stay at home mom after the birth of her two boys. Both are autistic, and have significant special dietary needs.
Unable to have more children, Renae and her husband pursued adoption through foster care. Over the course of 4 years and 20+ foster children, they adopted two beautiful girls, both with Reactive Attachment Disorder, PTSD, and other trauma related and emotional issues. The youngest also has autism.
Renae homeschools all four special needs children with her husband, using a Montessori-inspired thematic approach. She documents their homeschool journey on her blog Every Star Is Different, providing activity ideas and free printables for all who visit. The blog also focuses on support, encouragement, and ideas for families with developmental, emotional and/or dietary special needs.
Renae is an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in multiple leadership positions in the Primary, Young Women’s and Relief Society organizations. At present, she creates the monthly Relief Society newsletter for her ward, and serves as Ward Choir Director. Renae tries to make every day a day of service, sharing the light and love of her Savior, Jesus Christ with others.
