Introduction: 12 Days to a Montessori Christmas

I am excited to introduce the 12 Days to a Montessori Inspired Christmas. The main focus of our 12 day series is to help you incorporate a Montessori style worship space into your home on a daily basis and also to help you prepare for a Montessori Inspired Christmas. Here are the 12 topics we will be covering in our series.

I thought the best place to start was with ideas on how to set up a Montessori Inspired Worship Space in your very own home. I will share how we worship in our home to give you several examples.

First of all we have a designated room for our daily worship space and this space has it’s own Montessori inspired shelves. On the shelves I place special worship books, a basket for hands on learning about Jesus, a music basket, a picture of a praying child, and a Montessori tray with our featured Bible Lesson. All of these hands-on activities help my child to learn how to worship Jesus. Please visit, Christian Montessori Shelves for detailed information on how we use our wonderful worship shelves everyday.

CMN Worship Shelves

Every month I have a featured hands on Bible Lesson for my child to learn about the stories in God’s Word. In September we enjoyed using our Jonah and the Whale hands on Bible Lesson featured on the shelf above. For instructions on how to craft this Bible Lesson for your children, visit  Jonah and the Whale: Montessori Style. In October, we changed our featured Bible Lesson to Noah’s Ark. I found a second-hand Melissa & Doug “colorful” ark at the local consignment shop. Recently, I painted it a more natural color because I didn’t want it to distract from the lesson. My little boy enjoys naming the animals, lining them up in a line, and stuffing them all into the ark. Eventually, I will craft a Noah and Mrs. Noah from wooden peg people to go with this set. Most of the animals featured are either Safari or Schleich brands.

CMN Noah's Ark - Before & AfterFor the upcoming month of December, I crafted a hands-on Nativity set for my little boy to enjoy. I bought several pieces of flannel, magic markers, and three wooden peg people for creating Joseph, Mary, and Baby Jesus. I will post the link here, for the tutorial, when I have it completed. It is still in the works!

My child enjoys playing with these little hand sized figurines. He puts baby Jesus to sleep in the little box and then has the Mommy and Daddy kiss the baby goodnight. He says to the little baby, “night, night.” It’s very sweet and endearing to watch.
The Advent

The grand finale of our 12 Days to a Montessori Christmas will be a complete Bible Lesson with tutorial on the Nativity set. If crafting the Advent family seems daunting to you, I have listed several beautiful Nativity Sets that are reasonably priced. These sets are all made of wood and will last for a long time for your child to enjoy every Christmas.

The peg Mary & Joseph are just so sweet! Good job! I’ve been itching to get into Christmas activities, or at least planning them! You’ve inspired me. Can’t wait for the rest of the series!
