We’re on letter “G” for our ABCs of the Bible crafts, a great series of Bible School Craft Ideas.
Children can find it comforting to know that God is always with them, and always watching. We’ve used that knowledge to encourage kindness and fostering kind hearts. Our simple God’s Eye Craft is a great way to reinforce that biblical concept, while also creating a reminder to place in your home of God’s presence.
“God’s Eye” is a translation from “Ojos de Dios,” a central American meditation craft often bestowed as a blessing to others. They serve as a reminder of God’s omnipresence, as well as His ability to see into us.
Here are some biblical quotes to explore before making this craft:
1 Corinthians 2:10-11
For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God.
Job 34:21
“For His eyes are upon the ways of a man, And He sees all his steps.
Jeremiah 16:17
“For My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from My face, nor is their iniquity concealed from My eyes.
Materials Needed for G is for God’s Eye Craft:
- Popsicle sticks
- Glue
- Different colors of yarn
Traditionally, embellishments are only made with interlocking yarn designs, you could add beads or stickers if your child really wants a bit of additional detailing. Personally, I really love the simplicity of the yarn & wood designs.
Glue the popsicle sticks in a cross shape and cut the lengths of yarn into long strands. I wound the yarn into small balls to make them easier for my daughter to handle.
Once the crosses have dried, show your child how to wind the yarn around the sticks, weaving over and under in an alternating pattern.
They can even switch colours halfway through, or go back after they are done and tie on loops of contrasting coloured yarn.
This craft is a great fine motor strength building activity, as well as encouraging children to practice dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Children have the pull the string and carefully pay attention to the progress of their craft and how their hands are positioned and moving. All of these are great for building the skills necessary for learning how to write, as well as other practical life skills.
