M is for Miracles of Jesus

June 7, 2016 by Heather Greutman Leave a Comment

I will be the first to admit I’m not that into crafts. However, my  3 year old daughter and I had a lot of fun putting this together for the miracles of Jesus. You can check out our ABC’s of the Bible Crafts for Kids series here.

There are so many miracles of Jesus to choose from, but we decided to go with the story of the loaves and the fishes. This also happened to be my daughter’s lesson at Sabbath school that month, so it worked out well. Here are the verses we used.

9 “There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?”

10 Then Jesus said, “Make the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. 11 And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted.” John 6: 9-11.

Items You Need for Miracle of Jesus Craft

  • Brown construction paper
  • White craft paper
  • Crayons
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • hot glue gun
  • Piece of yarn or rope
  • Fish template
  • Bread template

Directions:

Take 2 pieces of brown construction paper and cut it into long strips. If your child is working on scissor skills, this is good practice for them. You may need to draw some lines down the paper so they have a visual cue.

Next, take 1 more piece of brown construction paper and fold it in half.

Lay out one piece of the brown construction paper strip and then glue down the ends of other strips, one on top and one underneath, until you reach the end. This begins the weaving pattern for the basket.

Take more strips of the brown paper and start weaving them in and out to make the basket. Once you come to the end, glue down all the ends so that they stay secure.

Take a large piece of brown construction paper and fold it in half. Then glue the basket weave to the front and trim any edges.

Take your bread and fish templates and print them out (16 to a page on your printer settings). You can color them any color you want. I helped out with this as well, since there were so many to color.

Cut out each fish and piece of bread and then glue 5 loaves and 2 fish to the front of the basket. Glue the rest of them to the inside of the basket. You can also use a hot glue gun to glue a string on to the basket so your child can hold it.

We also wrote out the Bible verse above and glued it to the inside of the basket. When the basket lays flat, they will see the 5 loaves and 2 fish, when they open it, the fish and bread have been multiplied! You can also read the entire story in John 6.
