Kids Winter Outdoor Resources

January 14, 2015 by Marie 2 Comments

We love getting outside! My son is more than a little disappointed we have not had any snow yet this season in central North Carolina, but that doesn’t stop us from getting out and enjoying outside with these wonderful winter outdoor resources.

Getting kids outdoors this winter can be a lot of fun! Use these resources to keep kids moving even in the cold months from ChristianMontessoriNetwork.com

It’s tough getting motivated to go outside when it is cold. I have young kids. That means mittens, hats, coats, boots, and so on for them AND me. It can be a chore, but the benefits far outweigh the time it takes to get out there and explore the winter months with hands on fun.

Explore at Home

Take your magnifying glass outside and explore frozen water, decaying leaves, and (hopefully) snow!

Winter Homeschool Fun on Homeschool Encouragement lists severals wonderful books, activities, and projects for the family in the winter months.

We love bubbles. So does our dog. Bubbles are a lot of fun to take outside and see how long you can hold one on your mitten. Chase bubbles to keep warm outside.

If it is cold enough, explore Frozen Bubbles as seen on Fireflies and Mud Pies.

Chalk works just as well outside when it is winter as it does in the summer months. Chalk is always fun on sidewalks and driveways.

Not much can compare to just getting outside and enjoying life even in the winter months! Find out more great winter outdoor resources at ChristianMontessoriNetwork.com

Get outside and just enjoy the day!

Where to Go

Take advantage of the zoos that may have discounted prices. Our zoo has half off prices in January. We have had several days in the 50s. That’s a great time to get out and see the animals for cheap!

Go to the park. Things look different without leaves on the trees. Walk your same paths and notice how life looks different in the winter months. Notice different birds or how people are dressed differently in the winter months.

A winter nature walk is the perfect way to get kids outdoors. Shared on ChristianMontessoriNetwork.com

Take a Winter Nature Walk as seen on Royal Little Lambs. Collect special finds and draw your favorite part of the walk.

Please be sure to watch your children for signs of hypothermia.
